"My
husband and I traveled to Tanzania in June of 2002.
It WAS
the experience of a lifetime for us. Our
time spent with Erasto Mollel was more amazing than we
could have ever
imagined! His knowledge of the land, the wildlife
and the people of Tanzania is so remarkable
that he made us feel totally connected to our
surroundings. We got such an appreciation for all
we saw: from watching the great migration of zebra
and wildebeest, to observing cheetahs sunning by the
side of the road, to spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Erasto was able to personalize our visit with his
stories of his family and his growing up Masaai - what
that meant to him and how it has affected his life and
the decisions he has made. And certainly the dung
beetle became more than just another insect on the
ground!
We are
planning to make another journey to Tanzania in the
future and we will certainly plan that trip with Erasto
-
his attention to detail
and his desire to share his country with his guests made
our safari a most memorable one. We wouldn't do it
any other way!" |

| "We celebrated many milestones, by taking our family of five on safari. We spent 7 days traveling with Erasto, whom we came to love. He shared with us his great knowledge of the wildlife and his beautiful country. On several occasions, we noticed other groups trying hard to capture some of Erasto's eloquent words, when their tour guide had failed them. One particular highlight was when he donned his traditional attire, and spoke to us as a Maasai Warior. When it was our time to leave, many of us had tears in our eyes when saying goodbye to our new friend Erasto. Our friendship has continued to grow, and we are anxious to join him in Tanzania again.. | |

"I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that our
African safari was an amazing one thanks to you and your
excellent tour guide skills! You were funny,
entertaining, and above all extremely knowledgeable
about the wildlife and culture. It was truly a
pleasure to be in your group - you made our African
safari the trip of our lifetime! If we make it
back to the most beautiful place in the world, we will
definitely contact you. In the meantime, we are
referring all our friends to you." |

"In August 1999, a friend and her daughter, my 13 year old son and I ventured
to Africa. When we arrived in Tanzania, we were
greeted with the biggest, warmest smile I have ever
seen. Over the course of the next week, Erasto
shared his breadth and wealth of knowledge about
animals, plants, culture, people, history and his unique
and wonderful story of of how he, as a young Maasai boy, learned of
the world beyond his village. There wasn't a
moment when I did not feel safe and secure, there wasn't
a time when my needs weren't taken care of. Every detail
of every day went smoothly thanks to Erasto's hard work.
It was the trip of a lifetime that absolutely changed
our lives!"

When we set out for our 'trip of a lifetime', we had no
idea how true that would turn out to be! Our time in
Tanzania remains in our hearts and spirits today, and
for all our lives. The land is beautiful, the people
warm and friendly, and the animals are incredible. The
trip was made more memorable and special thanks to the
wonderful friend we found in Erasto Mollel. He was our
guide - but much more than that. His knowledge of the
wildlife, ecology of the land, and insight and pride in
the people of Tanzania is impressive. He shares in a
manner both informative and inspirational. His life
story is fascinating in itself, and he shares freely. Since our trip a year ago, we have had the pleasure of hosting Erasto in our home for a visit to the United States. There simply could not be a better ambassador! We look forward to a lifelong friendship with Erasto, and joining him once again in his wonderful country. ![]() |

Dear Erasto, Though it has been over two years since our safari, the trip remains for us a "trip of a lifetime." Much of the reason for this is because of your dedication to your clients and your willingness to share your vast knowledge about the wildlife we saw and the Maasai village we visited.
One of our friends, who had gone on a safari with a
different group, spent
much time
looking at our photos and reading
captions I had written.
"How do you know the names of all the animals?" he
asked. We never dreamt that our safari guide would be a member of the Maasai tribe! One of the few tribes that has not been assimilated into the general population, the Maasai are at a crossroads in their history and you stand with "a foot in two worlds" so to speak. You spent an evening telling us about your people and their customs and later took us to a village, watching with pride as children recited the alphabet in their one-room school house...a building built with cow dung and furnished with a single blackboard. The majority of Maasai children didn't go to school when you were growing up. And the Maasai village of today will be vastly different 10 years from now. I cherish the pictures I have and stories you shared.
In addition to your background and knowledge, you
provided personal touches that added immensely to the
safari: an evening of music; your talk on the Maasai; a
nature walk to discuss local plants. One "personal
touch" took place on the Serengeti. We were at the
"airport," only there was no building, no tower or
landing strip. Gazelles and impalas grazed nearby.
The sun cast shadows on the paw prints of a lion who had
visited the night before. As we waited for the
plane, you took out your guitar and sang a song...your
voice and music the only sound on that vast plain.
And in that setting, Ron and I began to dance.
Every time I think of that moment--of us dancing on the
plains of the Serengeti--it makes me smile. It is
a forever memory! Thanks to you, there are a
number of them.
With Much Affection, Cynthia Placek

This was the dream vacation of a lifetime for my wife,
Michele and I. In East Africa, on Safari and
getting to meet Erasto Mollel on Safari. That was
the summer of 2001, and Erasto was our tour director and
cultural guide, taking us into the world of the Maasai
and the people and habitat of Tanzania. Now, two
years later we still have fond memories of our safari
and all the wonderful places we visited like the
Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, and Kilimanjaro. The
closeness of the wilderness, feeling the ebb and flow of
the wildlife in this ancient land. Lions in
numbers unexpected, elephants, hippos, cheetahs, and
even a leopard and rhinos! Giraffe, gazelles,
wildebeests and zebras living out their daily rituals.
Erasto showed us this land. Thank you Erasto for
sharing your country and your culture with us.
Your exuberance, your knowledge and your way of
conveying your love for your land to us has made an
indelible impression on us, that I am sure will last a
lifetime. |

We can't say enough good things about being with Erasto
on our Safari! Erasto is extremely knowledgeable
about all aspects of Tanzania, from all of the wildlife
to the exotic birds of his country, from life as a
Maasai warrior in a small village to more modern life in
the cities, and all from the perspective of first hand
knowledge.
Erasto's joy of life, his enthusiasm, his wonderful
sense of humor, and his desire to share his beautiful
country make traveling with him truly special. He
shows great concern for his "tourists" and make every
effort to see that everyone is comfortable and satisfied
with their African experience. Erasto has become a
close personal friend, and we look forward to being on
Safari with him again and again. |
